Continued from Day 3 Thessaloniki – Meteora – Athens
BusAbout Classic Balkan Trek – Day 4 of 9
I’ve always wanted to see Parthenon but was very disappointed on the day because of all the restoration work going on. It’s pretty tough work and will take years to complete as they’re making a lot of custom pieces to fill in the gaps of the ruins. But besides them getting in the way of your photos, the view of Athens from there is beautiful. As a city girl, it’s not a typical view. No skyscrapers and any really modern building in sight! Just basic white-ish square houses.
You know, I don’t really care if some people choose live backwards. Sometimes it’s nice to go back in time if you know what I mean. I don’t mean to offend, just sayin’! Living the slow life is nice. All these technology that speeds up our productivity makes us busier and make our engines go overdrive. In the old days, simple things took time. Yes, I know that’s a bad thing!! But sometimes, I think about it. The world is so competitive I sometimes feel I can’t keep up.. So I guess, it was nice to feel on top of the world at Parthenon and take a breath! When a country isn’t developing fast (all at all!), I was told to blame the government! I don’t follow politics so I’m not going to go into that.
Since Athens wasn’t that enjoyable we decided to leave early and head to Corfu Island (instead of Parga which is shown in the itinerary. Why? I don’t know but no regrets because Corfu is great).
A free day to explore the Greek capital, from which sprang pretty much everything that Western Civilisation is based on. There many ancient monuments but the iconic Acropolis and Parthenon dominate the city. *Tonight we get together for some dinner and drinks on a rooftop bar.
*Did the night before
Off we go to Corfu!!
Corfu island is beautiful. It’s got a relax and fun vibe at night. At night our tour guides (yes guides) took us out drinking and everyone started to really get to know each other, especially when tipsy.
